DISSEMINATE: A Visual Study of Academic Xerox

Digital Collage Zine, 25 pages. Published October 5 2025

I was an undergraduate (and occasional auditor of grad courses) studying art theory at the University at Buffalo from 2014 to 2017, when most departments were still beholden to the humble office Xerox machine for disseminating their required readings. The automated, quick and dirty PDF scan comes with many visual quirks: images blacked out to prioritize clear text, curled pages, crossed-out margin notes.

This digital zine is a quick visual investigation into these PDFS: warped, distorted, and visually unique, they are a portrait of both the human hand and the machine’s interventions when disseminating texts to students. Download for free below.

25 digital pages as digital spreads, with a full-color cover.

If you can, experience this on a computer monitor; if you’re reading on your phone, I suggest turning it sideways, as these pages are best experienced in spread view.
