Fragrant Utopias: Notes on What I Want From Perfume

9”x9” 40 Page Experimental Poetry Zine • Personal work

This upcoming project is an experimental exploration of sense, memory, and analytical writing related to the cultural art of perfume. Each section of this 4-essay collection includes a custom gradient “map” to evoke the abstract, sensory experience of scent.

The nonfiction essays are typeset in single, clean paragraphs supplemented with photos by the artist. Parallel to the essays, a secondary “poem” unfolds in the margins: annotations to words that have scent memories attached. These literal “margin notes” in combination with the essay pieces are an attempt to strike at the heart of what scent is–and what I want from it.
